Newsroom - Letters to the Editor

September 28, 2006

(Letter sent to the editor of the 100 Mile House Free Press)

Dear Editor:

I would like to respond to the September 27 article, "Canada Post saving us money?" The item states that Canada Post managed to announce a new PERMANENT™ stamp and at the same time mention that the price of stamps will be going up by one-cent as of January 15, 2007.

The one-cent increase for domestic stamps was announced back on June 28. Rate increases are controlled by the Consumer Price Index and cannot increase by more than two-thirds of the rate of inflation. Canada Post is obligated to publish notice of any increase to the domestic basic letter rate no later than July 1 in the year before the increase goes into effect.

As mentioned in the article, "it's nice to get a break now and then". Enjoy the new PERMAMENT stamp.

Sincerely,

Nicole Lemire
