Canadian Library Book Rates Program

Numerous reports have been published or broadcast in the last few days regarding the Library Book Rates Program. Upon her arrival at Canada Post, Ms. Moya Greene, the new President and CEO, reviewed the file and revised the Corporation's current position on this matter, as evidenced by a letter sent to the Canadian Library Association dated July 4, 2005, which stated:

Canada Post wishes to announce that it has no intention of acting unilaterally in this issue. Canada Post intends to honour its long-time commitment toward the Canadian Libraries and nothing will be done without the agreement of the government, its shareholder.

We regret any inconvenience or confusion resulting from communications over the past few days that suggested our unwillingness to honour our commitment and respect our engagement.
