Canada Post agrees to sale of poppies at post offices

Nov. 2, 2005

Canada Post today announced that all corporate post offices would be advised to allow the sale of poppies within their outlets immediately. The decision came about after confusion in some local areas regarding practices pertaining to charitable activities taking place on Canada Post property.

"Canada Post has always supported our country's veterans", said president and CEO Moya Greene. "We have issued countless stamps to honour them, and we've had a long-standing local practice of accepting the sale of poppies in many outlets. I've asked that we extend this to all outlets nationally".

"With over 65,000 charities nationally, it is impossible for Canada Post to accommodate all of them; however, due to our continued and long-standing support of our veterans and the Royal Canadian Legion, we believe this decision is entirely justifiable".
