Canada Post mourns death of employee killed in Afghanistan

April 24, 2006

Moya Greene, president and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post, today expressed profound sadness on behalf of the employees of Canada Post upon learning of the death of Lieutenant William Turner, a reservist killed in Afghanistan this weekend. Lieutenant Turner was on military leave from his job as a Canada Post letter carrier in Edmonton, Alberta.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time", said Ms Greene. "He was a courageous individual who stepped away from his civilian role as a letter carrier to try and make the world a better and safer place. All of his colleagues at Canada Post mourn his loss."

Employees at the Edmonton facility where Mr. Turner worked will receive counseling to help them cope with this tragedy.
