Olympian Jennifer Heil inspires Canada's top spellers!

April 13, 2007

2006 Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Heil was the guest of honour on Wednesday at a lunch for the 41 young people competing to become Canada's top speller in the CanWest CanSpell National Spelling Bee competition, presented by Canada Post.

Heil, who understands the power of motivation, gave an uplifting talk about having a dream and staying focused to make it come true.

Canada Post, a proud supporter of adult literacy since 1989, also actively promotes reading and writing to Canada's youth through initiatives such as its popular Write to Santa program and its educational Postal Planet website. This year, the company is pleased to expand this support by bringing the CanSpell program under the Canada Post literacy umbrella.

Over the past few months, more than 210,000 students across the country registered to test their spelling skills through the CanSpell program, with approximately 2,000 spellers making it to 20 regional competitions.
