Canada Post presents final offer to UPCE-PSAC
Nov. 16, 2008
The 2,100 UPCE-represented employees, representing approximately 5% of Canada Post’s 70,000 employees, are predominantly administrative and technical workers and do not handle the mail. Employees responsible for the collection and delivery of the mail are members of a separate union and have a valid contract. Mail delivery will not be affected.
“We’re hopeful that the union will see with this latest offer that Canada Post is doing all we can to avoid the hardship that a labour disruption would impose on our employees at this time of year”, said Mark MacDonell, General Manager, Labour Relations at Canada Post. “We’ve said all along that we were intent on negotiating a collective agreement and, given the current economic climate, we believe our offer is generous and in the best interests of both Canada Post and our employees.”
Some of the key highlights of Canada Post’s final offer include:
- A four year contract, providing stability for employees and Canada Post;
- A 2.50% wage increase for years one and two, and 2.75% for years three and four;
- Job security provisions for all employees at the time of signing;
- A Short Term Disability Program that includes income protection for all employees;
- Retention of 7 weeks holidays after 28 years service for all employees on strength at the time of contract signing.
