Canada Post announces 2020 greenhouse gas emissions reduction targetCanada Post announced today that, between 2008 and 2020, its goal is to reduce its direct greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent, in addition to the reduction in its emissions of 14 per cent from 1990 to date.

Montreal Canadiens Centennial honoured on Canadian postage stampsMONTRÉAL, QC (October 17, 2009) – They are the most storied sports team in Canadian history having won 24 Stanley Cups, more than any other team. They are the oldest continuously-operating professional ice hockey team, predating the founding of the NHL. Their team jerseys can be found in arenas across Canada, often outnumbering home-team sweaters. They are the Montreal Canadiens, and Canada Post today issued a stamp set honouring the team’s centennial and its iconic jersey.

New fundraising stamp on sale now! A fundraising stamp issued last year raised more than $340,000 for the Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health. To build on the success of the 2008 stamp and to continue to raise awareness, Canada Post has issued a second fundraising Mental Health stamp. The booklet (of 10 stamps) sells for an additional dollar, which is donated to the Foundation.

Great Canadian Arctic explorer “Captain Bartlett” honoured with stampCaptain Robert “Bob” Bartlett gained fame by accompanying fellow explorer Robert Peary on his 1909 expedition to the North Pole during which he reached farhter north than anyone had gone before. Canada Post issued a stamp today to mark the centennial of this historic trip and to pay tribute to Bartlett, a great Canadian hero.

On the road again: Canadian Highway Landmarks land their own stampsToday, Canada Post is taking Canadians on a cross-country journey celebrating four great Canadian Roadside Attractions along the way. The first of the three-year series begins in Northern and Western Canada with the Watson Lake Signpost Forest in Yukon; the Inukshuk in Hay River, Northwest Territories; British Columbia’s Mr. PG in Prince George; and the “Pysanka”, massive Easter egg in Vegreville, Alberta. Next year’s stamps will celebrate central Canada while the 2011 series will focus on Eastern Canada.

Canada Post ranked amongst the best Corporate Citizens in CanadaCanada Post has been ranked favourably on a list of Canadian companies assessed for corporate sustainability. Corporate Knights, a Canadian-based publication with an explicit focus on corporate responsibility, placed Canada Post in 16th position on its recently published annual list of the Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada. The list was released in the Summer 2009 issue and was also distributed as a Globe and Mail insert in June.

Canada Post proposes five-year pricing planCanada Post has submitted a regulatory proposal, in accordance with the Canada Post Corporation Act (“the Act”), to set the domestic basic letter rate (BLR) for letters weighing 30g or less for a five-year period starting January 11, 2010. The BLR would increase by three cents to 57 cents in January 2010, and rise by an additional two cents annually from 2011 to 2014. The proposal will be published in the Canada Gazette on June 27, 2009.
