Funding for mental health causes now available from the Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health
May 19, 2010
Registered charities have until May 31 to apply for a portion of the $1.5 million in funding now available from the Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health. Grant applications will be reviewed by the Foundation and funds disbursed in September 2010.
The Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health raised $1.6 million in 2009 through a fundraising campaign at post offices last fall, sales of mental health stamps and many grassroot, community events organized by post office employees.
Applications from registered charities must fund projects consistent with the goals of providing front-line support for those directly affected by mental illness and support to families who are dealing with mental illness. The application form and detailed instructions is available at canadapost.ca/foundation. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. (EDT) on May 31, 2010. Recipient selection will be completed by August, and announced in September.
About the Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health
The Foundation was formed when Canada Post adopted mental health as its cause of choice in 2007. Funds are raised a number of ways, including the sale of a special commemorative postage stamp, donations at post office counters during a fall fundraising campaign and contributions from Canada Post’s employees, customers and suppliers. Two mental health stamps are available at post offices nation wide, each booklet sold generates $1 for the Foundation. Additionally, donations can be made online anytime. Canada Post has, to date, raised $2.5 million for the Foundation.
