- Am I obliged to provide the Sender and Payee information? Isn't this an infringement on privacy?

- Q.Why does the Money Order look different?
A. Money Orders were enhanced to comply with federal legislation and the Canadian Payment Association's new cheque specifications. These changes ensure Canada Post complies with the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTF) requirements. - Q. What is the difference between the peach coloured Postal Money Order and the green coloured Postal Money Order?
A. The new green coloured document is used only for issuance of U.S. dollar Money Orders. The peach coloured document is used for issuance in Canadian dollars. - Q. Am I obliged to provide the Sender and Payee information? Isn't this an infringement on privacy?
A. As per government legislation, customers are now obliged to provide the sender (person or business) and payee (person or business) information. For Money Orders purchases totalling $3,000 or more, the customer will also need to provide information on the conductor (name of the person who is transacting on behalf of a business or on behalf of another person). This requirement is in line with the PCMLTF Act and is also aligned with other financial institutions' customer requirements. This, in fact, protects the customer that is purchasing the Money Order, as only the payee that they have designated will be able to cash it. - Q. The customer copy of the Money Order is missing. Is this normal?
A. This copy is not missing. Money orders are now comprised of a negotiable document only. The relevant information is now printed on your sales receipt. This receipt is your only copy and it must be retained for all future claims or enquiries. - Q. What if I refuse to provide the "Sender" or the "Pay To" names?
A. This information is required by law and unless Canada Post can meet the requirements set forth by the Act, the clerk will need to void / cancel the transaction. - Q. Why is the new Money Order not available at all Post Offices?
A. The new Money Order has been phased-in nationally at all automated post offices. All non-automated post offices continue to issue the old style money order .
