Are my conversations encrypted?
Data encrypted in transit
- All data is transferred using 128-bit SSL encryption for both uploads and downloads.
Data encryption at rest
- Connect uses AES 256-bit encrypted file storage.
Additional security
- Senders can wrap additional security around a Conversation by using an option called a Shared Secret.
- If the sender uses the Shared Secret option, you will be prompted to enter a password that the sender will have provided to you through a separate communication channel.
Best practices for passwords
Create a strong password by doing the following:
- Passwords must be 8 characters or more and contain a capital, number and/or special character.
- Randomly mix the characters in your password; add upper and lower case letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces and symbols.
- Refrain from using words found in a dictionary.
- Never use duplicate passwords.
- Don't add a single digit or symbol before or after a word. (e.g. carparts1)
- Don't double up a single word. (e.g. teeoffteeoff)
- Don't simply reverse a word. (e.g. elppa)
- Don't just remove the vowels. (e.g. ppl)
- Don't use key sequences that can easily be repeated. (e.g. qwerty, asdf)
Protect your account by following these best practices:
- Never share passwords with anyone.
- Use different passwords for all user accounts.
- Change passwords immediately if you think they may have been compromised.
- Be careful about where passwords are saved on computers. Some dialog boxes, such as those for remote access and other telephone connections, present an option to save or remember a password. Selecting this option poses a potential security threat.
