OTTAWA – Canada Post is entering a partnership with The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU) to support its global money transfer service available at post offices across the country.

Western Union is a financial services company which operates the largest global consumer-to-consumer retail money transfer network. The company provides services for international money transfers and cash pickup, which will be available to customers at Canada Post locations.

As a result of this new financial services partnership, the Corporation will be ending its current relationship and phasing out MoneyGram’s service throughout its retail network of post offices.

The Corporation wishes to extend its thanks to MoneyGram for its years of partnership.

Canada Post continually evaluates its partnerships to ensure they best align with its long-term business objectives. Last year, following a thorough review, the Corporation decided to make this key change to how it delivers its global remittance and bill payment services to customers.

Ensuring a smooth transition

As this financial service is highly valued by customers, Canada Post will be working with both Western Union and MoneyGram to help ensure a smooth transition.

At this time, MoneyGram remains available for customers at post offices across Canada. As Canada Post transitions Western Union into its retail network, it will work to ensure that customers have continuous access to its money transfer service without interruption.

More details will be provided in the spring to prepare customers and all stakeholders for the upcoming changes. As of now, there is no impact on customers.

Trusted provider of financial products and services

Financial services are an important part of life for Canadians, and it’s critical that everyone has access to solutions that meet their needs.

Every year, post offices handle millions of financial service transactions for our customers. These include domestic and international remittances, money orders, prepaid cards, deposits into digital accounts, and eVouchers. Customers now also have access to the Canada Post MyMoney Account, a spending and savings account offered in partnership with KOHO Financial.

With its extensive retail network across the country, Canada Post is uniquely positioned to help meet the evolving needs of Canadians, communities and Canadian businesses – especially those living in rural, remote and Indigenous communities.
