Canada Post providing temporary fuel surcharge relief for eligible domestic parcels

October 05, 2026

Posted in News Releases

Canada Post is providing a 15-per-cent discount on the published fuel surcharge for eligible domestic parcel services from October 5, 2026 to January 3, 2027.

The temporary relief will help businesses manage shipping costs during one of the busiest times of the year. Canadians sending eligible domestic parcels will also benefit.

This initiative builds on Canada Post’s ongoing efforts to support businesses through competitive pricing, ecommerce solutions and shipping tools.

About the discount

  • Eligible customers will receive a 15-per-cent discount on the published fuel surcharge for eligible domestic parcel services.
  • It will be in effect from October 5, 2026 to January 3, 2027.
  • The discount applies to the fuel surcharge only, not the total shipping price. It will be applied automatically.
  • Fuel surcharges will be subject to a minimum threshold of 25 per cent after the discount is applied.

About fuel surcharges

Fuel surcharges are a standard industry practice used to reflect changes in transportation fuel costs. They have been part of Canada Post’s standard pricing practices for nearly 20 years.

Canada Post’s domestic fuel surcharge is based on the average price of diesel fuel in Canada and is adjusted weekly.
