How we’re taking action

Our Indigenous and Northern reconciliation strategy, Canada Post’s Pathways of Reconciliation, is guided by two pathways:

  • Internal Pathway: Increasing Indigenous awareness and inclusion across Canada Post.
  • External Pathway: Supporting the well-being and growth of Indigenous and Northern communities.

Internal Pathway

  • Build organizational knowledge on Indigenous reconciliation
    We are building organizational knowledge on Indigenous reconciliation by creating a learning path and implementing initiatives that guide employees across the company on the journey of reconciliation.
  • Improve Indigenous employment and retention
    We are working to increase employment opportunities for Indigenous Peoples at Canada Post, while strengthening our focus on recruitment, retention and career growth.

External Pathway

  • Outreach and engagement with Indigenous communities
    Through a collaborative, community-driven approach, we are strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities through formal outreach. These sessions help identify opportunities for partnership and support meaningful, long-term collaboration.
  • Improve postal services to Indigenous and Northern communities
    With a tailored, community-by-community approach, we are strengthening postal services in Indigenous and Northern communities. We are expanding our retail network by adding post offices, introducing new products and increasing capacity to support community growth. We are also improving civic addressing and strengthening overall service.
  • Enhance Indigenous procurement efforts
    We have redefined our relationships with Indigenous-owned companies based on trust and economic reconciliation. We are advancing our Indigenous procurement objectives and strengthening expectations for our suppliers to engage Indigenous businesses through partnerships and subcontracting.
  • Support the safety and wellness of Indigenous communities
    In collaboration with community leaders and local law enforcement, we’re strengthening our efforts to serve Indigenous and Northern communities safely. This includes efforts to reduce the amount of non-mailable matter, such as alcohol and illicit drugs, that enter these communities.
