How to cash or get a refund for a postal money order

How to cash a postal money order

Cashing a postal money order is simple and can be done at any post office or through your bank.

  • At a post office

Visit any post office to cash your money order. If a post office does not have enough funds available to cash it immediately, you can try another location or return later.

  • At a bank

You can also cash or deposit your money order at your bank. However, be aware that some banks may charge a fee for cashing foreign postal money orders. Be sure to bring government-issued photo ID with you.

How to get a refund for a postal money order

If your money order has not been cashed and you wish to request a refund, you can call Canada Post at 1-800-563-0444. You’ll need to provide the serial number of the money order, which is printed on your sales receipt.
