Important information for customers affected by flooding in Fort McMurray, Alberta

May 14, 2020

Fort McMurray Canada Post employees – your family members, friends and neighbours – are working hard to reinstate postal services to all residents of our community.

Unfortunately, the flooding had an impact on one of our delivery facilities and we are in the process of getting an alternate facility up and running next week. This new location will be set up to process mail and serve customers who had a mailbox at the main post office at 101-19 Riedel Street, and the retail post offices at River City Shoppers Drug Mart and the Clearwater Sobeys. More details will follow on Tuesday, May 19.

Last Thursday, May 7, we resumed delivery to areas not affected by the flooding. Today, we are pleased to resume delivery of mail and packages to many parts of the evacuated area. We have secured mail and parcels at one of our facilities where it is unsafe to make deliveries.

To serve you better, we continue to encourage residents and businesses, especially if you are still displaced due to the flooding, to take advantage of our Mail Forwarding Service free of charge for a period of 12 months. Visit our website to register before May 31. Please note that a credit card will be required to authenticate the transaction and you will need to cancel the service online when you return to your residence or business place.

If you received a Delivery Notice Card for package pick-up, please verify the address to ensure you go to the right postal outlet at one of the two following locations: 190-121 Signal Road or 103-112 Riverstone Ridge. We ask you to help us serve as many customers as possible and pick up your delivered item as soon as possible, and remember to bring a valid government-issued photo identification. We also remind you to respect all physical distancing measures when visiting our post offices.

A reminder that if you have not received your socio-economic cheque, it is available for pick up at the postal outlet at 190-121 Signal Road in Thickwood.

We will update the Closures and service interruptions webpage as more information becomes available. If you have questions regarding your mail, please contact us.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this difficult time.
